Thailand–Laos cross-border bus route launches between Bueng Kan and Bolikhamxay

Transport Co Ltd (BorKorSor) and a Lao operator have launched a scheduled Thailand–Laos bus service on Route 16 linking Bueng Kan and Bolikhamxay. The 27km route runs eight trips daily, costs 100 baht, and takes about three hours including border procedures, with an additional bridge shuttle service available.

The Fifth Thai–Lao Friendship Bridge (Bueng Kan–Bolikhamxay) is being touted as the shortest strategic route linking three countries—Thailand, Laos and Vietnam—helping elevate Bueng Kan into a logistics centre and supporting seamless cross-border tourism in the region.

Meanwhile, Thailand and Laos are moving forward with the 6th Thai–Lao Friendship Bridge, linking Ubon Ratchathani with Salavan. The arch bridge will span over 1.6 km and connect to key regional highways. The project, valued at THB 4.91 billion, is set to enhance transport and trade along the Mekong economic corridor.
